It is a good game all by itself, but it just fails in comparison to other Fire Emblem games. If you are ok with that, then I cannot stress this enough: Buy this game. Sure, you have your Weapon Triangle now, sure, the graphics are a lot better than they were back then, but at the core, this is a early 90's game. And that is where it's problems start: It is just as the game was in 1990. The game is a straight and faithful remake of the series first outing, "Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light", released for the Famicom in 1990. A game that is as Fire Emblem as you can get. Sure, you have your Weapon Triangle now, sure, the graphics Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. Strip FE from this, and it becomes only a solid, but not outstanding tactical role playing game. Fire Emblem isn't just a tactics game! There are far better TBS games out there! It's appeal has always been the RPG element, the compelling story, and lovable characters. Playing through it, I little attachment to my characters or the plot in general, which is simply told through a short chapter description before each mission. True this is a remake of a very old game, but nearly no attempt was made to flesh the story out or update the mechanics. However, I hold Fire Emblem to a higher standard due to the quality of the other games, and this one fails compared to them. Playing through it, I little attachment to my characters or the plot in general, which is simply told Make no mistake, this is a polished game. Make no mistake, this is a polished game. So no matter what kind of gamer you are, if you have a DS get this game. the gameplay is really good and there are six difficulty levels for you to choose from. the characters are pretty cool, but Radiant Dawn's are better. The graphics are fine for the DS, though not groundbreaking, and the story is pretty good. There are many different weapons as well as a weapons triangle, axes beat lances, lances beat swords, and swords beat axes. there are over twenty different character classes, and many of them can be changed or enhanced. when a character dies, they're dead permanently. The story has over twenty chapters, and the levels are long and often very hard. there Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is a turn-based RPG that tells the story of Marth, a young prince who has to go into hiding after his home is taken over and must come back to defeat the shadow dragon and reclaim his throne. Also the amount of units I have to kill exceeds the number that can be taken into chapter 17, so 17x is gone, period).Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is a turn-based RPG that tells the story of Marth, a young prince who has to go into hiding after his home is taken over and must come back to defeat the shadow dragon and reclaim his throne. Also right now I'm at the chapter 16 arena, so I can only forge nine more weapons (well up to eleven I guess, but I'm not keen on trying to kill all but 15 of my units just to get the forge opportunity in chapter 20x. The forge amounts listed above are the optimal levels, because I can't confirm whether or not I'll even have enough money to forge all of those weapons that much. Not quite as defense oriented as the last team, but then with the crazy high attack scores in this game, there isn't much any unit can reliably defend against, just have enough speed to keep from getting doubled. I chose Cain because he has the most balanced stats all around, and can take a hit, unlike Frey. Got rid of the General, Hero, and Dragon Knight in favor of a Sniper and Berserker, and a Paladin to scout. I figure if magic is as omnipotent as you say, then I might as well equip my units with Pure Waters/Parthia to use at the end of the first turn to counteract it. Mercurius (not enough chapters left to forge a Ridersbane) Unlike Pokemon, you can transfer units but not items, which sucks.
